Oborevwori’s 100 days in office: Delta to inaugurate durable projects – Aniagwu
Delta State Government says it was doing everything possible to ensure that all projects lined up for inauguration to mark Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s 100 days in office stood the test of time.
The Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads), Mr. Charles Aniagwu disclosed this on Monday while fielding questions from Journalists shortly after inspecting projects earmarked for inauguration at the Dennis Osadebay University, Anwai-Asaba.
Mr. Aniagwu who led a team of project inauguration committee, said that they were in the university on the directive of the state governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to ensure that all the observations raised by the governor when he visited the institution earlier, were adequately addressed.
According to him, the governor wants to ensure that all the projects slated for inauguration to commemorate his 100 days in office as governor of the state, were efficiently and effectively delivered to enable them stand the test of time.
He disclosed that the governor does not want a situation where technical issues that may deprive people from using facilities in the university would arise after such facilities must have been inaugurated.
The Commissioner who was accompanied by his counterparts in the Ministries of Higher Education, Professor Nyerhovwo Tonukari and Housing, Hon. Godknows Angele as well as the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon expressed satisfaction that the issues raised by the governor in his recent visit to the university were adequately being addressed by the contractors.
“You recall that a few days ago, we were here with His Excellency, the governor who, as part of the activities leading to the marking of his 100 days in office, led a team of project inauguration committee to visit a number of projects.
“It happened that this university is one of those places we visited and he has asked us to returned and ensure that some of the observations he raised in that visit are being addressed.
“You have here with me, the Commissioners of Higher Education, Housing, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ben Oghojafor,
Chief Press Secretary to the governor, the contractor and of course, my humble self.
“We want to ensure that before we commission the projects, that they are indeed in a state worthy of commissioning.
“Not after commissioning by the governor, you now begin to point out any form of technical issues that will now make people not to move in and use the projects.
“So far, we have gone round and have confirmed that a number of issues pointed out by His Excellency the last time we were here, are being addressed. We commend the contractor for that.
“We have inspected the dual 250 seater capacity lecture theatres, the Faculty of Agriculture building, the Administrative building and the Vice-Chancellor’s lodge.
“The Commissioner for Housing has also directed his staff, led by the Permanent Secretary, to stay back and ensure that the few things we have noticed are being addressed before three days time that we are returning here for commissioning,” he said.
Mr. Aniagwu expressed hope that by the grace of God and barring any unforeseen circumstances, the projects executed by the state government at the Dennis Osadebay University would be inaugurated on Thursday, this week.
