Officers in the Delta State Civil Service can now heave a sigh of relief as the state government said officers who have stayed on grade level 16 for the mandatory four years will now receive notional promotion to grade level 17 without further delays.
The Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, made this known today (13/03/2023) while responding to issues raised at a media chat with journalists held at the New Press Centre in the New Government House, Asaba.
Okowa expressed shock that some officers in the state civil service especially the professional cadres have been stagnated in one level for years due to lack of establishment vacancies.
He promised to look into the issue of creation of
requisite professional departments in the Ministry of Information stressing that even where the creation of departments was not readily feasible, stagnated officers especially in professional cadres in the various ministries would be promoted to level 17 to serve under portfolio directors.
The governor expressed the belief that the measure would help to enhance the career progression of officers in the state civil service.
On the creation of new departments for the information officers’ cadre, the governor, however, said that he would call for the file and look at the possibilities of granting the proposal.
Information Officers’ Cadre currently has two departments, namely Department of Information and Department of Publication and Production services.
The Ministry of Information is seeking the creation of the Department of New Media and the Department of Field Publicity to improve service efficiency, effectiveness and career progression of its numerous officers.
