Delta State Government has commenced fixing the collapsed approach road to Umutu Bridge in Ukwuani Local Government Area to ease the agony of motorist plying the road.
The State Commissioner for Works (Urban & Highways), Mr Noel Omodon, who was on an inspection of the works done so far, stated that though the road was a federal highway under contract, the state government decided to intervened on the road to protect the lives of motorists who ply the route.
According to the works commissioner, the Governor Okowa led administration is mindful of the untold hardship the collapsed approach road to Umutu Bridge has caused motorists and has to embarked on the palliative to cushion the effect.
He explained that, so far, the contractor had excavated the failed materials, filled it with concrete boulders and sharp sand which would take a few days to solidify so as to know the height loss to make up for it.
Mr Omodon added that a new approach slab which was not on the design of the road would be constructed to address the problem on the road.
