In recognition of his contribution to the development and growth of agriculture in the state, the Delta State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Chief Julius Egbedi has been conferred with the title of the Ogwere of Okpe kingdom.
Receiving the title at the palace of the Orodje of Okpe, in Ororokpe, Hon. Egbedi said that the title conferred on him, which coincided with his reappointment as the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, was to help promote more of agricultural development in the state.
He said the council of traditional rulers having seen his contribution towards boosting food production in the state and his community felt it necessary to confer on him the title, Ogwere of Okpe Kingdom (Great Farmer).
He prayed God to give him the wisdom to carry his duties to a higher level and ensure food security in his community and the state.
Earlier, the Monarch, HRM Maj Gen Felix Mujakperuo, (retd) the Orhue I of Okpe Kingdom prayed for long life and wisdom upon the Commissioner to accomplish the royal responsibility given to him.
Wife of the Commissioner, Chief Mrs Rashidat Egbedi who was also conferred with the title alongside her husband, promised to assist the husband to achieve his responsibility he had been handed.
While thanking God for the recognition of Egbedi’s service to the state and his community by the Orodje of Okpe and the traditional rulers council, the project manager of the Asaba International Airport, Mr Austin Ayemidejor urged the new Chief to continue to give back to the society as he has always done.
Ayemidejor prayed for God’s wisdom upon the Commissioner to enable him deliver on the title bestowed on him as the Great Chief Farmer of the kingdom.
Highlight of the event was the decoration of the Ogwere of Okpe kingdom with the official regalia of his title
Present at the ceremony were dignitaries from all walks of life including the State Chairman of PDP, Olorogun Kingsley Esiso, Prof. Sam Oyovbaire, former Commissioner for Works, Chief James Augoye, the Commissioner for Finance, Sir Fidelis Tilije, the former Commissioner for Special Duties, Government House, Dr Henry Sakpra among others.
