DTSG TO CURB INCIDENCE OF UNDERAGED DRIVERS, PERSONS DRIVING ON INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL, ILLICIT DRUGS

Delta State government has expressed serious concern at the growing incidence of underaged drivers and persons driving under the influence of alcohol and illicit, particularly sedative, drugs and its attendant negative consequences.
A statement from the Directorate of Political and Security Services, Governor’s Office, Asaba, disclosed that the immediate remedial actions to curb the menace topped the agenda of the meeting of the State Security Council, held in January 27, 2021.
The statement which was signed by the Director, Security Services, Emma Ugheberio, for Secretary to the Statement Government enjoined the concerned media outfits in the state to immediately embark on sensitisation campaigns against the growing menace in the state, adding that parents and guardians should advise their underaged children and wards from driving any motor vehicle in the state.
It stated further that the measures were to ensure safe motoring in the state.
Meanwhile, the ban on all night club operations, owing to the second wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic, is still in force, towards the curtailment of the spread of the deadly virus and to safe lives in the state.

DTSG TO PARTNER SPHCDA TO CURB SPREADING OF COVID-19 VIRUS

The Delta State Government has reassured ministries, departments and agencies in the state of its determination to actualise the stronger Delta vision of the Okowa Administration.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr Chiedu Ebie, disclosed this when officials of the State Primary Health Care Agency (SPHCDA) paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Asaba, the state capital.
Mr Ebie, a lawyer, noted that it was the responsibility of the Office of the SSG to see to the smooth running of the MDAs to enable them achieve the purpose for which they were set up.
He assured the Governing Board and the Management of the SPHCDA that the State Government would put measures in place in providing adequate storage facilities for the COVID-19 vaccines, to ensure that the potency of the vaccines was maintained before the state government eventually took delivery of the vaccines.
The SSG said government would continue to sensitise and encourage the public to always observe the COVID-19 protocols put in place by the Presidential Task Force on the pandemic.
Earlier, the Executive Director of the Agency, Dr Jude Winful-Orieke said that they were in the SSG’s Office to intimate him of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and the plans the agency had on ground to encourage the state government to get the available vaccine for the treatment of the virus in the state.
He stated that the number of COVID-19 positive cases was on the increase as a result of non-compliance to the COVID-19 protocols by members of the public, adding that the best way to flatten the curve was strict adherence to all guidelines put in place by the Presidential Task Force on curtailment of the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

DSPHCDA TRAINS HEALTHCARE WORKERS ON EFFECTIVE CHOLERA TREATMENTS
The member representing Delta South Senatorial District in Board of the Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency (DSPHCDA), Dr George Omiwere Boyo, has reiterated the board’s commitment in strengthening the capacity of health care workers for effective and quality health service delivery in the state.
Dr. Boyo stated this in Effurun while flagging-off a two day training workshop for Executive Secretaries, Diseases Surveillance Notification Officers, Health Educators and Officers in charge of the 48 PHCs communities affected by cholera outbreak in the state.
The board member said the administration of Dr Okowa places high priority in the overall healthcare needs of Deltans, adding that contrary to some opinions, government immediately constituted fact finding team to unravel the strange deaths in Burutu Local Government Area of the state and had provided medical consumables to other affected local government areas to arrest the outbreak of cholera in the areas.
He disclosed that the state had recorded about 450 cases with 15 reported deaths, saying that samples must be collected and confirmed by laboratory tests before any diagnosis results were announced, which he said was responsible for the delay in making such findings public.
Dr. Paul Yinkore, Director Community Health Services and Team Leader, Cholera Outbreak Response, expressed optimism that the training would achieve its objective, which was to intimate the participants on the universal treatment procedures in cholera outbreaks.
Dr. Yinkore reminded participants at the training that they were critical stakeholders in the health sector, primary health care being the bedrock of healthcare delivery and the first point of call for treatment.
Speaking further, Dr Yinkore said that the recent outbreak of cholera in some parts of the state called for proactive efforts by health workers, stressing that there was the need for intensive awareness campaign and checks on sanitary life style of people living in communities prone to cholera, adding that residents should stop open defecation, particularly into the rivers.
According to him, cholera is a virus and acute intestinal infection, caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with a bacterium, vibrio cholerae, which could results in severe diarrhea, leading to death, if not immediately treated.
Responding on behalf of the participants, Dr. Layegwe Ogheneruru expressed satisfaction over the training programme, saying that it would equip them adequately to respond to the outbreak of cholera in the state.
Dr. Layegwe revealed that the training was not only relevant but apt and timely as participants now has the knowledge to ensure that water borne diseases does not spread.
The Training which was multi sectorial had Engr. Edewor B.O of Ministry of water resources teaching on consumption of safe drinking water, Dr. Hobson Rudoff,Mr Nathaniel Enamuotor and Mr. Chukwuma Okafor of Ministry of Health,Mr Bebefagha Cletus of Ministry of Environment, Mr Mumbor Innocent and Mr. Odejerho Emmanuel of DSPHCDA and Mr. Igbu Emmanuel of WHO taking different aspect on prevention of Cholera.
Highpoints of the training was demonstration of proper hand washing and presentation of Water Guide to the ES for distribution to affected communities.

UKAH LAUDS GOVERNOR OKOWA’S INFRASTRUCTURAL MILESTONE IN OKPANAM

Delta State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Patrick Ukah, has again lauded Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the multifaceted and strategic approach towards enhancing the socioeconomic growth and development of Okpanam community in Oahimili North Local Government Area of the state.
Mr. Ukah, made the commendation at Amachai Quarters of Okpanam, during a reception organised by his Special Assistant, Felix Ideh, for the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) faithful and youths in the area ahead of the forthcoming local government election in the state.
The Basic and Secondary Education Commissioner, who restated that apart from several roads and the establishment of Oruchi Comprehensive Secondary School in Amachai, as well as the empowerment initiative of the government which the people of Okpanam community had continued to benefit from, the state government, under the leadership of Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, had approved the construction of the road linking Akwukwu-Igbo from Okpanam.
He described his Special Assistant, Felix Ideh, as a humble individual with the needed and uncommon capacity for effective service delivery and urged the people to come out in their large numbers to vote for all PDP candidates in the local government election.
In his remarks, the convener of the event, Felix Ideh, said that the initiative was geared towards interacting with his people and sensitise them on the need to reciprocate Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa’s unprecedented infrastructural development in Okpanam by voting overwhelmingly for PDP in the March 6 local government election.
Mr. Ideh stated that the community had been transformed beyond expectations by the Okowa Administration through road networks, appointment of Okpanam indigenes into his government and youth empowerment.
Others who spoke included Amachai PDP Cell Chairman, Mr. Isitua Ogugua, the women leader of Amachai PDP Cell, Mrs. Esther Osamor, and Lady Patricia Ideh who commended Mr. Ukah for giving one of their own, Felix Ideh, the opportunity to work with him as his Special Assistant, adding that Amachai people would always identify with the PDP, just as they pledged their unalloyed support for the Okowa Administration.

ARARO COMMENDS GOVERNOR OKOWA’S PEACEFUL DISPOSITION, INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT OF DELTA

The Chairman of the Delta State Chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Comrade (Chief) Dennis Araro, has commended the governor of the state, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, for his peaceful disposition in the settlement of the rift within the leadership of the union in the state.
Comrade Araro gave the commendations while feeding questions from some journalists in the secretariat of the union in Asaba, the state capital.
The labour leader maintained that the unbiased posture of the governor enhanced the speedy resolution of the wrangling for the leadership of the union in the state, adding that not only did the governor showcase his fatherly role in the amicable settlement of the issues at stake, but he ensured that the two warring factions saw themselves as an indivisible entity in the quest for the actualisation of the Stronger Delta vision of the state government when the unfortunate tussle lasted.
While calling on all members of the union in the state to embrace peace as demonstrated by Governor Okowa, Comrade Araro maintained that the court verdict that confirmed his position as the Chairman of the union in state was an act of God, adding that there was neither victor nor vanquished in the outcome of the internal fighting that rumbled for almost a year.
He said that all hands must now be on deck so as to take the union to enviable heights among other unions in the state, adding that the best way to reciprocate Governor Okowa’s peaceful disposition was to support his administration and maintain the existing peace in whatever they do in the state.
Meanwhile, Comrade Araro has also commended the infrastructural milestones of the Okowa Administration in the state.
He said that apart from his massive road construction across the state which earned him the sobriquet of being the Road Master, the building of the multi billion naira state secretariat in Asaba and many other infrastructures in the three senatorial districts of the state was heartwarming.
Comrade Araro disclosed that he always marvelled at the magnificence and aesthetics of the completed mega secretariat along Maryam Babangida Way in Asaba, each time he passed through the way, adding that it was only a governor desirous of leaving a lasting legacy that could conceive and finance such a colossus structure until it was completed.
He enjoined civil servants who are to make use of it after commissioning to reciprocate Governor Okowa’s good intention in providing them with an excellent working environment in building the secretariat by embracing maintenance culture at all times so as to keep the structure from decaying.

WARRI FIRE OUTBREAK: LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL TO THE RESCUE

The Warri South Local Government Council in Delta State has assisted two breastfeeding mothers, Mrs. Ese Gloria and Mirabel Goodluck, who are among members of the nine families affected by the recent devastating fire that occurred at Ale, off Market Road in Warri, on Saturday February 13, 2021 with five month accommodation rents each.
The Director of Personnel Management (DPM) in the council, Dr. (Mrs.) Minnie Igbrude, who announced the financial assistance , when she visited the scene of the fire incidence and the Word of Life Bible Church Clinic in Warri where some of the affected persons were receiving medical attention, accompanied by the Assistant Director of Administration, Mr. Geoffrey Anamali, stated that apart from the rent assistance, the two affected mother would be engaged as casual workers in the council secretariat.
Dr. Igbrude also gave one Madam Eyewu Tuedeneye #5000 ( Five thousand naira) for the repairs of her tap heads, damaged when sympathizers tried in vain to put out the inferno, which completely razed down a church building and nine residential houses in the area.
The local government council boss also presented an undisclosed sum of money to Mama Esther Okelezo, the Octogenarian who suffered first degree burns as a result of the fire outbreak, promising to assist her further when discharged from the hospital bed
Mrs Igbrude ,thereafter, paid an unscheduled working visit to the Pessu Health Centre, where she inspected facilities on ground and stressed the need for strict adherence to all the laid down protocols of the COVID-19 virus towards the safety of workers and prevention of the spread of the virus.

TRADITIONAL RULERS BEMOAN FG NEGLECT OF NIGER DELTA

Traditional rulers under the aegis of Traditional Rulers Of Oil Mineral Producing Communities Of Nigeria ( TROMPCON), Delta State Chapter, have bemoaned the neglect of Niger Delta Region by the Federal Government.
The Delta State Chairman of TROMPCON, HRM Dr Emmanuel Ekemejewa Sideso ( JP) OON Abe 1, Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, in his keynote address adopted by members of the group as a communiqué during their general meeting in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday February 17, 2021 accused the Federal Government of neglect of the Niger Delta Region.
He stated that ” there is no gain saying the fact that Niger Delta Region is like the proverbial goose that lays the golden egg without having a taste of it.”
” The dearth of infrastructural facilities and social amenities is not only regrettable but wicked, ” he lamented.
The Uvwie monarch in his articulated address described Federal Government roads in Delta State as nightmares, adding that ” the Osubi Airstrip is now forgotten and not attended to because the Aviation Minister and Minister of Petroleum do not feel the pains of our people. “
The royal father called on the Federal Government to reopen the Osubi Airstrip without further delay.
