ONLY PEACE MAKERS DESERVE BEING JUSTICES OF PEACE – OGWU
One of the recent recipients of Justice of Peace at Agbor in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Benjamin Ogwu (JP), has said that the conferment of Justice of the Peace was based on ones contributions and how much one had worked to ensure that there was peace in the society.
He made this assertion in a chat with newsmen immediately after being conferred with Justice of the Peace alongside some others on Monday March 1, 2021 at the Federal High Court in Agbor by Justice Ogadi.
He maintained that the esteemed position was neither for trouble makers nor reserved for the rich, arguing that if wealth was the main criterion for conferment of the title, very many deserving candidates would never be conferred with the title of Justice of the Peace.
Chief Ogwu, said that the main function of a Justice of Peace was to ensure peaceful coexistence in his or her community, adding that a Justice of Peace could also sign a search warrant for the police in the absence a judge of the High Court.
He stated further that the position was not for those who are criminally inclined or for exconvicts, adding that one could be stripped of the title if found wanting, pointing out that the title was not for questionable characters.
According to him, before one was conferred with the title, one must have been thoroughly investigated to ensure his or her impeccable character.
He expressed thanks to God for keeping him alive to receive the title, just as he appreciated the state government under the leadership of Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa for deeming him worthy to serve in that position.

ELECTRICITY BLACKOUT: CONCERNED RESIDENTS CALL FOR ASSISTANCE
Affected electricity consumers in Iwerriebon, Morka, Okobi and Obiazikwor streets at Boji-Boji Owa in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, have decried the four months power blackout due to the collapse of the transformer supplying electricity in the area.
Speaking on behalf of the concerned residents, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the area, Mr. Francis Akowa, lamented that living without electricity supply had not been easy, adding that business activities in the area had crumbled.
According to him, “For four months, Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has failed to change our transformer which was said to be faulty despite several visits and letters of appeal for a replacement.”
“Since BEDC has kept us in darkness, we have no hope of when electricity will be restored to our area. We are now appealing to our state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, our representatives at the National Assembly, Honourable Victor Nwokolo and at the state House of Assembly, Honourable Anthony Elekeokwuri, to come to our aid in providing another transformer in order to save us from the unending darkness,” he pleaded.
Mr. Akowa added that the unabated increases in prices of petroleum products, particularly petrol, had compounded their problem in the use of electricity generators for power supply.
“Residents are living in fear of being attacked by hoodlums who are using the advantage of darkness in the area to rob. We are therefore passionately appealing to Governor Okowa and others to use their good offices to provide us with a transformer,” he pleadingly added.
