GOV OKOWA APPLAUDS AYEMIDEJOR AT 60
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, has congratulated the Special Project Director, Asaba International Airport, Mr. Austine Ayemidejor, as he clocks 60 years.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, in Asaba, the state capital, the governor said that Ayemidejor was a political tactician and administrator, who had contributed immensely in the development of the public service in the state.
He particularly commended Ayemidejor for his role in the management and the recent successful concessioning of the Asaba International Airport.
The governor noted that Ayemidejor had an outstanding service to the state, working as the Supervisory Councilor, Secretary to Sapele Local Government Council and civil commissioner from 2014 to 2015.
He expressed hope that the best was yet to come for Ayemidejor as he joined the league of elders in mentoring the young generation of youths in politics and business.
“On behalf of my family, the government and people of Delta, I congratulate an illustrious son of Sapele and Delta State, Mr. Ayemidejor, a man of diligence and outstanding patriotism, as he celebrates 60 years on earth.”
“As Special Project Director of the Asaba International Airport, you have contributed immensely to the growth and development of the airport and to its recent successful concession.”
“As a commissioner in the state, you were exceptionally committed to the course of providing leadership to achieve set goals for our dear state,” Okowa said.
He joined family, friends and associates in celebrating Ayemidejor, the political tactician and quintessential gentleman, and prayed that God would strengthen and grant him good health in his continued service to the state and mankind.

SOUTH SOUTH PDP ELECTS NEW EXECUTIVES
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the South South geopolitical zone of Nigeria has elected a new executive committee, with a vow to reclaim power at the centre in 2023.
In the election which took place at the Obi Wali Conference Centre, Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, Chief Dan Orbih, who ran unopposed, emerged as the National Vice Chairman of the party in the zone.
Other elected officers, who also did not have opponents, were Felix Omenu, Zonal Secretary; Anthony Ikuenobe, Financial Secretary; Evelyn Weke, Treasurer; George Turnah, Legal Adviser; Lloyd Owonaru, Youth Leader and Tessy Toru, Woman leader.
The election was conducted by an electoral committee headed by Dr Adetokunbo Pearse, and was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In his remarks, the Chairman, South South Governors’ Forum and Governor of Delta State, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, thanked the outgoing Caretaker Committee in the zone for its contributions to the party.
He said that the party in the zone would continue to speak with one voice to provide leadership and direction for the members.
“We thank God that we are gathered here again as a party and as a zone because when we gather, we speak with one voice.”
“As long as we stay united as one, we will continue to build on the gains of the past, and going into the future, I know that we will continue to work hard to take back our country under the leadership of the PDP.”
“On behalf of my colleagues, we will continue to work with the executive of our zone and we will as a party, take back leadership of our country in 2023.”
“When we return to power in 2023, this nation will be redirected in a manner that will be good for every Nigerian,” Okowa stated.
Welcoming the delegates earlier, the host governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, assured that measures had been taken to ensure that the congress was hitch free.
He said “the hope of this party in this country is in the South South zone and since 1999 it has been so, and by the grace of God it will not change now.”
“Let us comport ourselves and show Nigerians that PDP is different from other political parties and we are waiting to take over power at the centre in 2023,” he stated.
In his acceptance speech after the election, Orbih thanked party leaders for the confidence reposed in him and other members of the executive committee and assured that they would mobilise the zone to work assiduously with others zones across the country to reclaim power at the centre.
Other dignitaries present at the zonal congress included governors Douye Diri of Bayelsa, Godwin Obaseki of Edo, Minority Leader, House of Representatives, Chief Ndudi Elumelu; Senator James Manager and the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

DELTA SERVICOM BOSS, OTHERS STRESS WOMEN POSITION IN NATION BUILDING

Women in the society have been described as critical agents for societal growth.
The Delta State Governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, stated this during the 2021 International Women’s Day celebration in Asaba, the state capital.
The governor who was represented by the Special Adviser on SERVICOM and Labour Relations, Comrade Mike Okeme, said that women had a greater role to play in the growth of not only their individual homes but the state and the nation at large.
He noted that the theme of the 2021 Women Day Celebration anchored on “Women in Leadership Towards Achieving Equal Opportunities for All in COVID-19 world: The Nigeria situation” was apt and necessary.
Comrade Okeme recalled that the world was facing the COVID-19 Pandemic with the usual determination to survive its novelty.
He urged women to always collaborate with other stakeholders with a view to ensuring that women continue to take their pride of place in the scheme of things in the society.
The SERVICOM boss admonished women to be steadfast in their fight for equal rights among their male counterparts, stressing that their gradually recognition in the scheme of things in the society was a call to duty.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Delta State chapter, Comrade Goodluck Oforbruku, advised women to interface with the labour unions towards actualising their quest for a better welfare for workers in the state, adding that they should showcase their capacity in all aspects of life.
The NLC boss said that women always played very vital role in the growth and development of any society, just as he urged them to take labour related issues and workers’ welfare seriously.
Also speaking, the Delta State Chairperson of the Women Committee, Nigeria Labour Congress, Delta State Council, Comrade Vera Onoriode Osilonya, said that the International Women’s Day was aimed at reflecting on the success recorded so far on issues bothering on the welfare of women.
She emphasised the need for women to be courageous and always celebrate women who had played extra ordinary roles in the history of their countries and communities.
She said that it was a season to celebrate women’s contributions to the society, create awareness on the fight for gender parity and inspire support for organisations that would help women globally.

OKOWA : PEOPLE’S GOVERNOR – ONOKERO

Delta State Governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, has been described by the Provost of the Delta State College of Education, Mosogar, Dr Imide Onokero, as the Governor of the People.
Dr Onokero stated this in his office at Mosogar in Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state during an interactive section with some journalists.
The provost said that the governor was an intelligent man who knew the value of quality education, adding that the upgrading of some institutions to degree awarding universities by the state government was an index of the high premium the governor placed in the development of the education sector in the state.
He commended the Okowa led administration over the welfare of workers in the state, saying that the administration had so far taken the welfare of the workers as a top priority by ensuring prompt payment of salaries in the state.
He further pointed out that the Okowa Administration had also done well in terms of human capital development through wealth and job creation, thereby tackling the issue of unemployment in the state.
The Educationist also applauded Okowa over the massive road constructions and maintenance across the state.
“The Road master, as he is popularly known, has done very well as most villages are being linked up with good network of roads in the state. He has also done well in job creation. If there is any thing like third term in office as a governor, I think the people will want to vote for him again, ” the Provost stated.
The Provost who took over on May 27, 2020 said that he had been able to achieve some levels of success.
Dr Onokero said that when he came in he ensured that the environment was conducive enough for learning and introduced an E-learning seminar for both teachers and non-academics staff to upgrade them on computer training in order to cope with the covid-19 challenges.
He pointed out some of the challenges facing the college to include insecurity , infrastructure and shortage of staff, urging the government to look into the raised issues.

HONOURABLE KELVIN OKWECHIME RESUMES OFFICE, COMMENDS HPM FOR EXEMPLARY MANAGERIAL CAPABILITY

The newly inaugurated chairman in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, Honourable Kelvin Okwechime, has commended the Head of Personnel Management (HPM) in the council, Dr (Mrs) Patricia Dede, for managing the affaires of the council with efficiency since the last elected executives left office in the council.
Honourable Okwechime who stated this shortly after taking over the mantle of leadership of the council in his office from the HPM, said that the proactive roll of the HPM exhibited to particularly improve the revenue base of the council was unprecedented.
The chairman assured that he would do much he could to continue from where the HPM stopped and intensify efforts at improving the fortune of the council.
He urged the DPM to continue to support him towards taking the council to greater heights.
Honourable Okwechime used the occasion to announce the appointment of Honourable Uche Chiejine as the Secretary to the local government and Honourable kankene Okolie as his chief adviser.
Earlier, the HPM while handing over to the chairman informed the chairman that the council had 15 gazetted traditional rulers out of the 17 communities in the area, adding however the need to improve on the internally generated revenue of the council.
The brief ceremony was witnessed by the Vice chairman, princess Tina Amuamuziam and other management staff of the council.

UVWIE PG CANVASSES SUPPORT FOR ONOYAKE

The President General (PG) of the apex socio-cultural body in Uvwie Kingdom, Uvwie General Improvement Union ( UGIU) , Chief Austin Tivere Ukuwrere, has canvassed for more support for the reelected Executive Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council in Delta State, Honourable Ramson Tega Onoyake.
Ukuwrere, who is also a Senior Special Assistant ( SSA) to Governor Okowa on Community Development made the call in his message of felicitations to Onoyake on his reelection at his office along PTI Road, Effurun on Tuesday March 9, 2021.
While thanking the electorates for the reelection of Onoyake, Ukuwrere reasoned that the Uvwie Local Government Council boss needed more support to take the area to greater heights.
He also congratulated the Vice Chairman of the council and all the councillors for their victory in elections, just as he urged them to cooperate with Honourable Onoyake for good governance of the council area.
The President-General of Uvwie General Improvement Union ( UGIU ) had earlier described the relationship between Onoyake and UGIU, Uvwie chiefs, elders, youths , non – indigenes and staff of the council as very cordial.”
