Delta state media practitioners have been advised to at all times exercise due diligence and impartiality in their reportage so as to guarantee a peaceful and stronger Delta.
This charge was given by the Delta State governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa who was represented by his Information Commissioner, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, while declaring open the 3rd Edition of the Delta State Communication Workshop (DELCOM2021), organised by the office of the Executive Assistant (Communications) to the Governor.
The governor stated that as mass communicators, media practitioners have the ability to shape the views of their audience and as such they have a responsibility to do that in the best interest of the state and not for selfish reasons.
He thanked the media practitioners for their robust collaboration and for being partners in progress since the past six of his administration and urged them ensure a unbiased reportage always to ensure a stronger Delta.
Speaking on the achievements of his administration so far which are evident, the governor further reiterated the mandate of his administration to continue to ensure an enabling environment that will facilitate prosperity for Deltans.
He commended the organisers of the workshop for their consistency in ensuring that the workshop takes place every year as well as for the crop of facilitators whom they bring even as he urged the participants to take advantage of the new knowledge being shared to further develop themselves and enhance their reportage.
Speaking earlier, the organiser of the workshop, Mr. Fred Latimore, said the need for the workshop arose from the need for media practitioners to constantly keep abreast with the constantly evolving trends in news gathering and reporting.
He thanked the governor for providing an enabling environment for the press to thrive even as he called on media practitioners to reciprocate the governor’s good gesture by maintaining unbiased and balanced reportage always.
